This is a beautiful set of six (6) chairs; hand carved out of walnut with an elegant back design in the almost oval shape with a soft shape scrolls and top cartouche in the semi form of the Fleur De Lee .The legs of the chairs are executed in Luis XV style of the simple slipper foot shape. The cane seat was made more for the practical (easy maintenance and if it starts sagging just wet the cane and as it dries it will tighten in to the original shape) and decorative use ( it’s cheaper to have the cushions with tied backs than to reupholster the chair). The chairs are very steady and comfortable. This style will go very nicely with any traditional or country table - you can dress them up or simplify with the fabric of the cushions. They were purchased in France but the similar examples of this style were found in Italy, Holland, Belgium and Spain. Since they are not marked or stamped we attributed them to the Traditional style.
